Islamophobia and Misogyny

Day 1: Islamophobia

Goals: Discuss how Islamophobia is present in society and how it affects the lives of people. How are people treated because of Islamophobia?

Day 2: Misogyny

Goals: Critically consider how you view women in Islam. How do these readings change your perceptions of the religion in terms of the role and position of women?

Discuss how much one can trust the interpretation and understanding presented in this blog post, which seems to be a student written assignment. Also, discuss how much of the history is known, or even taught in general, by those in the course - most likely not as widely known as histories of western cultures or civilizations are.

What are some of the issues raised in this article? What is problematic about this piece? What emphases are made in regards to Islam and misogyny?
