Introduction and Theory

Day 1: Introduction

Goals: Look through the syllabus; Introduce the topic and theory.

What is race? What does it mean to racialize a group? What is the importance of acknowledging and being aware of your own positionality?

Day 2: Theory

Goals: Consider the impacts and importance of the readings. What are the  messages of the theory pieces? How do they potentially apply to the topic?

Discusses how white people have created an oppressive worldwide society and often erase the accomplishments of other populations (Black, Asian, non-Christian, etc) or modified history to claim it for themselves. What are the connections that can be drawn  in terms of religion? What does this say about race?

This piece covers the importance of lived experience on knowledge and understanding. How does this connect with the themes of this course?

This article looks at how western civilizations do not take the time or effort to thoroughly investigate or understand a culture or religion prior to making assumptions and spreading information or propaganda. Why is this important? How does this connect with the other readings?
